Flood Relief

In 2015 during November & December the rain fall recorded was 68cm which was 53% more than the normal rainfall. Chennai recorded 435 mm of rain in a span of 24 hours on 1st December 2015.

Loss of Life of 421 people & cattle 4000.

Property damages Approximately 14,602 crores.

Damages impacted Chennai, Thiruvallore, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram and partly Thoothukudi and Thiruvarur districts. Chennai faced the worst situation due to heavy flood in all its water courses.

American Tamils empathized with flood victims and started donating funds for flood Relief operations. Within a week’s time TNF mobilized Rs 33 lakhs and within a month raised nearly 1 crore.

Total Flood relief donations received from TNF USA is Rs 4, 78, 00,000/

The Flood Relied donations were spent on the following items:

Immediate Relief

Food, milk, cloths, Vegetables, provisions, vessels, plates tumblers, mats, blankets.

Medical support, Medical camps medicines etc

Educational Support

Scholarship, Furniture, Audio visual aids, Stationeries, School books, Uniforms, School bags etc

Livelihood support

Tailoring training, Entrepreneurial training, Sewing machines, Iron boxes

Long Term Relief  

Infrastructure support such as toilet repair work, Minjur Community Hall renovation, repairs and renovation of Creches ( Balwadi Centers) Renovation of Government School buildings, Government Public Library, AshokNagar, Chennai and Construction of Houses for the houseless people at Chidambaram taluk, Cuddalore district.
